Wimbledon 2009: Maria Sharapova’s elimination is the first major upset

The elimination of former champion Maria Sharapova has shocked her fans. She has been beaten by Gisela Dulko of Argentina. She has been crashed out of the second round of the two-week Wimbledon tournament. It was thought a major upset in this tournament. Due to her injury, she had to stay out side of the court for long time. However, she made her return in French Open and played well. It was an exciting game between these two contestants. Gisela Dulko defeated her by 6-3, 3-6 and 6-4. Sharapova made it more exciting after making her return in the second set. No doubt, after this victory Dulko has got much publicity. Let us see how many upsets we have to see in this tournament.

Maria Sharapova is expecting to hold French Open 2009

Maria Sharapova has made his return in the tennis with French Open tournament after long time. Now, she is hoping to make her return memorable with the clinching of Roland Garros title. She has got a tough win against Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova in the third round. She has beaten Shvedova by 1:6, 6:3, 6:4. This match was played two hours and 12 minutes. Sharapova ensured his victory at the third set. The 22-year-old Maria Sharapova was out of the tennis court for 10 months due to her shoulder injury. Because of her injury, the former N.1 has slipped to 102 in the ranking. It is the best time for her to take the control over the tennis court and start dominance in the women’s tennis. After winning the third round against Yaroslava Shvedova, she has moved to fourth round where she will face the 25th ranked China's Li Na. It is a big challenge for her. Let us see if she can take over Li Na or not.

Maria Sharapova will not Take Part in Italian Open and Madrid Open

Maria Sharapova has decided to give a miss to Italian Open and the Madrid Open next week ahead of French Open 2009 that kicks off from May 25. The former world no. 1 returned to tennis circuit on March 12 with a doubles match in the Indian Wells tournament after a long time out injured. Maria Sharapova suffered a torn rotator cuff injury in August 2008 and then underwent a shoulder surgery in October, and thus, eventually missing the US Open 2008 tournament. The Russian beauty is now expected to be back in grand slam arena with the upcoming French Open 2009 tournament. Sharapova has been dropped to 64th in WTA ranking. Now, let us see if Maria Sharapova can make a strong come back in the French Open 2009 tournament.

Maria Sharapova Dropped to No. 53 in WTA Ranking

Former world no. 1 Maria Sharapova has been dropped by 23 positions to 53 in the WTA ranking. The Russian star has been out of professional circuit with a torn rotator cuff since Rogers Cup 2008. Sharapova even also underwent an arthroscopic surgery in October 2008 which eventually forced her to pull out of Beijing Olympics and US Open 2008.

Maria Sharapova has also missed a number of tournaments this year including Open GDF SUEZ in Paris, the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami and the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships. She made a return to doubles circuit last month when she partnering with fellow Russian Elena Vesnina competed at the Indian Wells tournament. However, the Russian pair crushed out of the tournament from the first round.

Now, Maria Sharapova is ranked at 53 in WTA ranking. No doubt, Sharapova fansa re disappointed with her injury and is hoping that their favorite star would make a strong come back in French Open 2009, getting over her injury.

Maria Sharapova Made a Brief Return in Indian Wells

Tennis superstar Maria Sharapova made her much-awaited comeback in competitive tennis with a doubles match at the Indian Wells WTA tournament. Though the Russian star suffered a first round elimination teaming up with Elena Vesnina, her return from a shoulder injury after seven months must have been more important news to the tennis fans around the world. Women’s tennis saw a void during these months when Williams sisters dominated the court in almost every major tournament. Ekaterina Makarova and Tatiana Poutchek defeated Sharapova and Vesnina pair 6-1 4-6 10-7.
