Favorites Reached Semi Final in ATP Rome Masters Tennis 2009

All the top favorites of ATP Rome Masters tennis have progressed into the semi final. On Friday, current world no. 1 Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and defending champion Novak Djokovic won their respective quarter final matches to reach the last four of the tournament. Nadal outclassed fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 on red clay court at Foro Italico. Rafael Nadal already has 3 titles of Rome Masters to his credit from 2005 to 2007 in three straight years. With this victory, Nadal stretched his red clay winning run to 28 matches and currently holds 145-4 record on clay court since 2005. Nadal will face 12th seed Fernando Gonzalez in the semi final on Saturday.


Roger Federer saw off his German opponent Mischa Zverev in two sets, but the Swiss former world no. 1 faced strong challenge from the German qualifier. The first set was decided in tie-breaker 7-6 (7-3). Federer has two runners up titles to his hat. Federer will take on Djokovic in the semi final. The Serbian defeated Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter final to clinch his semi final berth in the tournament.
