Rafael Nadal Clinched ATP Rome Masters 2009 Title

Spanish no. 1 Rafael Nadal has continued his excellent form on clay court as he recaptured the ATP Rome Masters title which he lost last year to Novak Djokovic. This has been the fourth Rome Masters title for Nadal in total as he won this title from 2005-2007 in three successive years. With this victory, Nadal extended his winning streak on clay court to 30. This victory would also give him some additional sweet feeling as he was crashed out of the same tournament by Juan Carlos Ferrero last year which has been his last defeat on clay court.

In the final, Rafael Nadal outperformed his Serbian Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7-2) 6-2. The Serbian clinched the Rome Masters title last year and was looking to defend his title against top favorite Nadal. However, Nadal took only two sets to win the match, even though Jokovic took a stern test of the world no. 1 in the first set which was decided in tie-breaker. However, all his resistance broke down in the second set as he took it 6-2. After the losing the match, Djokovic said that he had missed lots of chances in the match, while his Spanish opponent got over the pressure very well.

Rafael Nadal has now been in excellent form. He has recently won Barcelona Open and Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters last month. So, the world no. 1 would surely go into the French Open 2009 tournament full of confidence.
