However, his inclusion for Switzerland is in doubt. They lost their last match against the U.S. in March by 4-1 due to Federer’s side back injury. Now, they will face Italy in David Cup playoffs. It is very important match for Switzerland.

Rafael Nadal Facing High Altitude Challenge in Madrid Masters

World no. 1 Rafael Nadal has been in sparkling form as the Spaniard has just won three ATP tour titles in the space of just one month recently. After winning fifth straight Monte Carlo title and Barcelona Open, Nadal retained Rome title last week, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.

Now, Rafael Nadal is going to take part in the Madrid Masters on a 30-match unbeaten streak on clay court, ahead of French Open 2009 which kicks off later this month. The Madrid Masters is the last tournament for Nadal before he heads into the French Open 2009 where Nadal will be looking for his fifth straight title this year.

Though Rafael Nadal has clinched three clay court titles over the last one month, the Madrid Masters would be an easy stage for the Spaniard to replicate his current form because of Madrid’s high altitude (600-meter). Now, it is to see if Rafael Nadal can take up the challenge successfully and win his fourth clay court title before heading toward Roland Garros.

French Open 2009: Perfect Stage for Roger Federer to Revive His Career?

Roger Federer is not going through good time on the court since last year. Now, ahead of French Open 2009, the Swiss legend must be looking for a strong come back in the upcoming French Open, the only grand slam tournament Federer could not yet win in his illustrious career. Current no. 1 Rafael Nadal has become the favorite for French Open over the last few years as the Spaniard has been the champion at Roland Garros for 4 years now. No doubt, Nadal has already done enough to become a clay court legend. In fact, the Spaniard has just stretched his clay court winning streak to 30 after defeating Novak Djokovic in the Rome Masters final recently. Naturally, it would be a great challenge for Federer to clinch the French Open 2009 title, outperforming his Spanish rival.

Moreover, Federer has not been in his top form now. In fact, the winner of 13 grand slam titles has not won any title so far this year, and has been knocked out by Novak Djokovic recently from the semi final of Rome Masters. However, I think, Federer could put his career back on the right track, if he can display some spirited performance and win the French Open 2009 in what would equal Pete Sampras’ record 14 grand slam titles. This is a big challenge, but Roger Federer could be inspired, knowing that a French Open title would boost up his career and help him retain what he lost over the last one year.

Rafael Nadal Clinched ATP Rome Masters 2009 Title

Spanish no. 1 Rafael Nadal has continued his excellent form on clay court as he recaptured the ATP Rome Masters title which he lost last year to Novak Djokovic. This has been the fourth Rome Masters title for Nadal in total as he won this title from 2005-2007 in three successive years. With this victory, Nadal extended his winning streak on clay court to 30. This victory would also give him some additional sweet feeling as he was crashed out of the same tournament by Juan Carlos Ferrero last year which has been his last defeat on clay court.

In the final, Rafael Nadal outperformed his Serbian Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7-2) 6-2. The Serbian clinched the Rome Masters title last year and was looking to defend his title against top favorite Nadal. However, Nadal took only two sets to win the match, even though Jokovic took a stern test of the world no. 1 in the first set which was decided in tie-breaker. However, all his resistance broke down in the second set as he took it 6-2. After the losing the match, Djokovic said that he had missed lots of chances in the match, while his Spanish opponent got over the pressure very well.

Rafael Nadal has now been in excellent form. He has recently won Barcelona Open and Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters last month. So, the world no. 1 would surely go into the French Open 2009 tournament full of confidence.
